We exist to make disciples who…
Love God
It may sound simple, but we desire to build a family that clearly Loves God! While this occurs on a heart level, we believe that it should reveal itself in the way we do life. One aspect, as we discussed above is through our weekly worship gatherings. This is a public display of our affection to God. Other ways that we encourage our covenant members to Love God is through regular Bible reading, prayer and fasting, and seeking to give up sin in favor of God’s righteousness.
And He said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and all your soul, and with all your mind.” Matthew 22:37
love one another...
Jesus was crystal clear with His disciples and us, that we are to LOVE ONE ANOTHER! Anytime we see “One Another” in scripture we can assume that is talking about life on life with other Christ followers. We are even told that the world will know that we are HIS DISCIPLES by how we Love One Another. Our best entry-way into living this out is through Community Groups. It is difficult to truly love someone without knowing them! Community Groups provide a perfect avenue to get to know others and their needs. By choosing to Love One Another, we seek to take care of each other’s physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. Examples of Loving One Another could be providing meals in difficult or stressful times, helping one another when someone is struggling financially, providing support during times of grief or loss, and even accountability and guidance when it comes to following Jesus and abandoning sin.
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”
John 13:34-35
“Brothers, if anyone is caught in any transgression, you who are spiritual should restore him in a spirit of gentleness. Keep watch on yourself, lest you too be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” Galatians 6:1-2
“So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are in the household of faith.” Galatians 6:10
and love the city.
God has placed Origins in one of the most amazing cities possible! Our city is growing rapidly in popularity, size, and NEED! We cannot strive to be more and more like Jesus if we are not attempting to see people the way He does. In doing so, we see that we are surround by deep need. As a church we desire to equip our members to love their families, neighbors, and co-workers, and as a congregation we commit to loving our City well by intervening where we see need. Sometimes this may occur as a one-time event or it may be part of an ongoing relationship. Ultimately the goal is to do our best to ensure that every man, woman, and child has repeated opportunities to hear and respond to the Gospel. In addition to Origins-driven initiatives, we also seek to establish and maintain city partnerships within our “Circle of Accountability” that will allow us to partner with those who are already seeking the welfare of our city. Our strategy is simple: Pray, Serve, and Share!
“It is not enough for you to be my servant raising up tribes of Jacob and restoring the protected ones of Israel. I will also make you a light for the nations to be my salvation to the ends of the earth.” Isaiah 49:6
“All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always to the end of the age.” Matthew 28:18-20
“But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” Jeremiah 29:7
