Our Mission
Our mission is simple; we exist to Make Disciples who Love God, Love One Another, and Love the City. We feel this is best accomplished through intentional relationships with those who live, work, and play in downtown.
“And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”’
Matthew 28:18-20
Making Disciples
Before we can talk about what it means to make a disciple, we must have a clear and unified understanding of what a disciple is! In Matthew 4:18-22 we see Jesus calling His first disciples. In vs 19 we see “And He said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.”’
Three Characteristics of a Disciple
From this verse we see that a disciple has three characteristics:
A disciple is someone who is following Jesus.
A disciple is being transformed by Jesus.
A disciple is on mission with Jesus.
Following Jesus
In order to FOLLOW Jesus, we may first need to LEAVE. We definitely must be someone who desires to leave our sin behind. Scripture calls this repentance. And after choosing to leave our sin behind, we must begin to follow or imitate Jesus in the way He lived and Loved. We learn what this looks like through being intentionally and regularly exposed to Scripture.
Being Transformed by Jesus
Next, we see that a disciple is someone who is being TRANSFORMED by Jesus. God does, in fact, love us just as we are, but He loves us too much to leave us that way. He desires that we begin to look, act, love, and live more and more like Jesus. Jesus told His disciples that he would quite literally change their occupation. When we give our lives over and declare Jesus as Lord, we do so with an understanding that God is going to make us NEW!
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold the new has come”
2 Corinthians 5:17
On Mission With Jesus
Lastly, we see that a disciple is someone who is ON MISSION with Jesus. It would be quite easy to assume that our salvation is so personal that it is just about us. BUT IT IS NOT!!! We have been redeemed so that others may hear of the beautiful, transformative, and life-giving power of Jesus. This means that each of us has been brought into the mission of Jesus.
“All of this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation.”
2 Corinthians 5:18
How Discipleship Happens
Discipleship occurs when we allow God to change us from the inside out. We have 3 structures in place to provide ways to hear God’s voice and allow Him to change you: Sunday Worship Gatherings, Community Groups and Discipleship Groups
Relationships with other believers that are intentional, loving, and truthful will also be the best environment for true discipleship to occur.
Our goal is to create a family of true disciples and disciple-makers!
