A New Season, A Faithful God
November! Here we are at yet another season change! Are you a pumpkins and crunchy leaves type of person or are you already in the Christmas spirit? Whether you're itching to set up your tree (real tree for lifeeee!!!), or won't touch a candy cane until after Thanksgiving, the coming of Fall and into Winter is always a great reminder of the faithfulness of God. Psalm 8:3 and 4 tell us:
"When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is man that you are mindful of him, and the son of man that you care for him?"
How can it be that the God of the Universe, the creator of heaven and earth is mindful of us! He cares for us! He is as predictable as the changing seasons, and that gives me great comfort.
What's Happening in OriginsKids This November?
In November, OriginsKids will be taking a break from The Biggest Story curriculum and focus on learning about The Bible! We have completed the 52 Old Testament stories, covering Creation and The Pentateuch, History, Poetry (Job and Psalms), and the Prophets. That is 52 weeks of opening scripture, reading about the Character of God, and a year of hearing how these Old Testament stories connect to the Gospel...the good news of Jesus coming to rescue us! We will begin our New Testament Stories in the new year!
What Is the Bible, and Why Can We Trust It?
Psalm 119:105 reminds us that God's word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Every story points us to the One who made us, who loves us, who teaches us, and who leads us. We are going to explore this in the next 4 weeks in Origins Kids. We believe the Bible is the inspired word of God, written by human authors under the supernatural guidance of the Holy Spirit, and is true and without error. It is a trustworthy book that helps us know how to live. Each week we will dive into different aspects of these beliefs and help the kids explore what the Bible is and why we can trust it as God's word.
Our Four-Week Journey Through the Bible
Week 1 (November 1): MEET THE BIBLE
The Bible is God's Word that tells one big story about who he is and how he works in the world.
Week 2 (November 8): THE BIBLE THROUGH HISTORY
God gave us his word through real people, in real places, and has remained reliable through history.
Week 3 (November 15): ONE BIG STORY
The Bible tells one big story of God's plan to rescue his people and restore his creation through Jesus.
Week 4 (November 22): THE GOD OF THE BIBLE
Through God's Word, we can know Him and draw near to Him.
Helping Kids Grow in God's Word
Each week will have a Big Idea, a memory verse, and an activity to tie everything back to what we've explored about the Bible. Think: Bible BINGO, Memorizing the Books of the Bible, Timeline of History, and tools to help us continue our study of the Bible. Kids can earn stickers and prizes for bringing their Bibles each week, remembering the memory verse, being a great listener in class and more! If your child does not have a Bible they can bring to class, we will provide them! Let us know here. This month is a great time to encourage them to bring their own Bibles so they can become comfortable searching for books, chapters and verses.
More Than Knowing the Bible
Have you heard the song by Josiah Queen called "Dusty Bibles"?
We got dust on our Bibles, brand new iphones and we wonder why we feel this way. We walk with our eyes closed, blind leading blind folks. I'm done with those idols and dusty Bibles.
Let us have open eyes and bibles that are not dusty. And may our kids know the Bible, but more than that, may we lead them to their Bibles so that they can KNOW and LOVE and FOLLOW the God of the Bible.
One More Thing!
OH and PS - don't be alarmed if our set up looks a little different :) It's time we combined classes!! :)
